Great Britain took a strong team of 17 gymnasts to the World Cup and International Youth Open held in Cantanhede, Portugal.
11 of them from Weston Aerobic Gymnastics, 8 Gymnasts and national coaches Kat Saunders and Caryl Griffiths led by head of delegation Debbie Saunders.
The team got off to a cracking start on day one, claiming three medals. Lola Lawrence was the first medallist winning a bronze with a stunning performance in the national development individual category.
Shortly after, Toby Baker showed his strength and much improved artistry in his routine to scoop a silver in the individual male category. When Lola and Toby joined up in the mixed pairs category, they proved to be unbeatable and won the gold medal with a huge score of 17.400.
Also through to the finals was the Group one team of Molly Brown, Gemma Handley, Ellie Hayes, Tianna Marshall and Bella Styles.
The success continued on day two. The group won the second gold medal of the competition for GB. Molly, Gemma, Ellie, Tianna and Bella gave a flawless performance in the final to move from fourth to first place.
On the final day, the group one pair of Lewis Harvey and Bella Styles were the final competitors of the championships. Lewis and Bella did not disappoint and ended GB’s competition on a high, win
ning the silver medal.
All the officials were thrilled with the team’s performance in a very high standard international competition.
