Competition – World Cup and International Youth Open.
Venue – Cantanhede, Portugal
Date – 5th-9th May 2016
Great Britain took a strong team of 17 gymnasts to the above competition. With 10 of them from Weston Aerobic Gymnastics and National coaches Kat Saunders, Caryl Griffiths attended led by head of delegation Debbie Saunders.
The team got off to a cracking start on day one claiming 3 medals. Lola Lawrence was the first medallist winning a bronze with a stunning performance in the National Development Individual Women category. Shortly after Toby Baker showed his strength and much improved artistry in his routine to scoop a silver in the National Development Individual Male category. When Lola and Toby joined up in the Mixed Pair category they proved to be unbeatable and won the gold medal with a huge score of 17.400. Through to finals was the Group 1 Group of Molly Brown, Gemma Handley, Ellie Hayes, Tianna Marshall and Bella Styles.
The success continued on day 2. The Group won the second gold medal of the competition for GB. Molly, Gemma, Ellie, Tianna and Bella gave a flawless performance in the final to move from 4th to first place.
On the final day the Group 1 Pair of Lewis Harvey and Bella Styles were our final competitors of the championships. Lewis and Bella did not disappoint and ended GB’s competition on a high winning the silver medal.
All the officials were thrilled to bits with the team’s performance in a very high standard competition. Great Britain stamped their mark on the international stage.
